Frequently Asked Questions

What shall we wear?

Please wear clean comfortable clothing that allows you and your child to move freely. It’s a good idea to layer your clothing as your body will warm up during the class and cool down as we relax at the end.

What age group is Flow & Grow Family Yoga suitable for?

Flow & Grow Family Yoga currently offers a yoga playgroup for parents with children aged 0-5 as well as family yoga workshops for parents/caregivers with children aged 3 to 5, and 6 to 12 years old. (The age bracket is a guide only though – so if you have a “mature” 4 year old or “young” 6 year old, choose the session you feel works best for your family.)

When making a booking, please check carefully to ensure you’ve selected the right workshop/course and location for you.

Grown-ups must be at least 18 years of age.

How many children can I bring?

It depends on the type of class offered.

Some sessions focus on one-on-one connection, and a one child/one adult policy applies to support and strengthen the special bond that exists between a child and their caregiver. (If you’re familiar with the concept of Special Time, I like to think of it as Special Times “on steroids”!)

Some sessions will be open to the whole family and you can book for yourself and as many children as you like.

Parents can bring multiple children to yoga playgroup.

Please refer to individual workshop/event/class details before booking.

Is Flow & Grow Family Yoga for everyone?

Generally speaking, yes. However, please be aware that any physical activity, including yoga, involves a risk of accident, illness, injury, or death. We won’t be doing any death-defying stunts, but it is important that you are aware of any physical or mental conditions that may pose a risk to your or your child’s health and safety.

Also, some kids prefer other activities – and that’s fine! As my teacher Andrea Helten always says: Soccer is fun, too 🙂

You must provide medical clearance from your health practitioner if:

  • You are pregnant.
  • If you gave birth recently (you must be at least 8 weeks postpartum).
  • Your doctor has ever said you have a heart condition AND that you should only do physical activity recommended by a doctor.
  • You feel pain in your chest when you engage in physical activity.
  • You’ve experienced chest pain during the past month while doing physical activity.
  • You lose your balance because of dizziness, or if you lose consciousness.
  • You have a bone or joint problem that could be made worse by physical activity.
  • Your doctor is currently prescribing drugs for your blood pressure or a heart condition.
  • You know of any other reason why you should not do physical activity.

Please contact me BEFORE you make a booking if any of the above apply to you, or if you have any concerns about your ability to participate in class.

Are you trained in First Aid?

Yes. I hold a current HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting certificate.

Furthermore, I hold a valid Working with Children Check and have RRHAN-EC (Mandatory Notification) training.

I have never done yoga before, is that a problem?

Not at all! Flow & Grow Family Yoga’s style of parent-child / family yoga is very different from a ‘normal’ adult or even kids yoga class. So whether you’re a novice or an experienced yogi – it doesn’t matter. Just come with an open mind and be ready to move and be silly!

What do we need to bring?

If you have one, please bring your own yoga mats: one for you and one for your child. For sessions with 3-5 year olds, one mat for the two is usually fine.

If you don’t have your own mats, please contact me prior to the start of the session to arrange for a hire mat (no extra cost but limited supply).

For family yoga sessions, you’ll also need:

  • plenty of water for you and your child
  • a blanket
  • some snacks for after

For yoga playgroup, you’ll need the above plus:

  • a favourite toy or two for your little one (please nothing electronic though)
  • extra snacks 😉
  • extra nappies, clothes etc as required

What if my child or I get ill?

If either or both of you feel unwell, please exercise common sense and stay at home. Please contact me as soon as possible via SMS on the mobile number provided as part of your booking confirmation.

If there is a waiting list and I can fill your spot, I will happily refund you the workshop fee (less the non-refundable Humanitix booking fee and an administration charge per ticket).

If I cannot fill your spot, the cancellation policy current at the time of booking applies.

What can we expect on the day of a family yoga workshop?

Please arrive 5-10 mins prior to the start of the workshop or session. Upon arrival, I’ll check your booking and answer any questions you may have.

I will ask you to take your shoes off and choose one of the marked spots in the room for your yoga mats.

Each session usually begins with a quick introduction and checking in to see how everybody is. Sessions are loosely structured around a theme that we will explore together through games and yoga postures that help release stress and anxiety and strengthen our bodies. We finish off with some relaxation exercises that may involve a massage or guided visualization. Plus time to cuddle and simply be with each other!

Flow & Grow Family Yoga workshops and classes are full of fun and giggles, and laughter is one of the best ways to relieve stress and anxiety. At the same time, please be mindful of the other participants and take care to keep your attention on what is happening in the room.

What can I expect at Yoga Playgroup?

We’ll begin with a slow and gentle start as we settle into the space, followed by:

  • Welcome songs to help everyone feel at ease and get our bodies moving.
  • Yogasana-based movement (postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises) for grown-ups to stretch, move, and possibly even relax a little.
  • Opportunities for children to join in the movement if they feel like it.
  • A little sprinkle of yoga philosophy to support your parenting journey.
  • A story to nourish the imagination and bring a calm end to our session.
  • A goodbye song to close the session.

Feel free to bring more than one child and stay a while after the end of the formal part to enjoy herbal tea and a chat with the other parents, connecting with new friends and building community.

Will there be a break?

Workshops or sessions that are 90 minutes or longer will include an official break.

Of course, you are welcome to rest, use the loo, or grab some fresh air at any time should you need to. Just be mindful of the other participants as you move through the space.

What is the difference between a workshop and a course?

Workshops are self-contained units, meaning you can book one or all of them. Courses (and yoga playgroup) run over several weeks and are booked as one block.

Do you offer private classes?

Yes, I offer limited private sessions for individual families or small groups in the comfort of their own home, or online. Prices vary according to location, duration, number of participants and so forth, so please contact me for a quote. A travel fee also applies and will depend on your location.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

As a parent I know that planning ahead with children can be difficult. At the same time, I am a sole-trader and need to make sure that my costs (such as venue hire, insurance, website hosting, marketing etc) are covered.

If Flow & Grow Family Yoga cancels or postpones an event, you can choose to either have your booking moved to a new date, or receive a refund (exclusive of the non-refundable Humanitix booking fee.)

If you can no longer attend the booked event, and I cannot find a replacement for your spot, the cancellation policy current at the time of your booking applies.

I can no longer attend the session I booked. Can I give my place to someone else?

In principle, yes. Please contact me as soon as possible to discuss details.

Do you do gift vouchers?

Yes! Please contact me to discuss details.
